Yep, that's probably what'd I'd play

I Am A: Neutral Good Half-Elf Fighter

Neutral Good characters believe in the power of good above all else. They will work to make the world a better place, and will do whatever is necessary to bring that about, whether it goes for or against whatever is considered 'normal'.

Half-Elves are a cross between a human and an elf. They are smaller, like their elven ancestors, but have a much shorter lifespan. They are sometimes looked down upon as half-breeds, but this is rare. They have both the curious drive of humans and the patience of elves.

Fighters are the warriors. They use weapons to accomplish their goals. This isn't to say that they aren't intelligent, but that they do, in fact, believe that violence is frequently the answer.

THINKS for April 28, 2006

Turns out, I had other THINKS to write about last time, but I overlooked them.

Last time I mentioned that Palladium Books needed help due to some insider nastiness.
There's been an update or twelve now.

I found a really interesting blog about what Disney does wrong. Actually, the writers work for Disney, and have a heart for seeing the parks as they should be.

Here's another blog that has an interesting discourse on the Whedonverse, one post about Buffy/Angel, another about Firefly/Serenity.

The recently discovered Bosnian Pyramid has it's own website!

I love the new BSG, but I also have a fondness for the extra-cheesy original. That's just an intro to this pic.

I think that's all I missed last time.

"THINKS": Kev's term combining the words Things and Links: an assortment of images, links, games, trivia, memes, minutia, and whatnot found while browsing and mentioned collectively in a blog or message-board posts.

Another Meme My Sister Sent Me

1. IF YOU COULD BUILD A HOUSE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
If money were no object, somewhere in the middle of the continental United States in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees and hills and lakes. It'd be a nice sized house with all the normal housey stuff about it. Underneath, underground would be a complete second "house" complete with backup generators, solar power, wind power, water power, etc. designed to be a completely sustainable shelter in the event of a war or some other kind of disaster requiring us to seek that kind of shelter.

2. YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING?
My Star Wars Weekend baseball cap.

3. THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT?
??

4. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
0530.

5. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE?
Dishwasher

6. IF YOU COULD PLAY AN INSTRUMENT WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Acoustic Guitar.

7. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR OR SUV?
SUV-Preferably a black H3.

Yup.

9. FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOK?

11. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I think I've answered this meme before.

12. IF YOU HAVE A TATTOO WHERE IS IT?
No tats, no piercings - just the God-given hotness that is me.

13. CAN YOU JUGGLE?
not really. I was there the day the gym teacher started teaching it with two tennis balls. But I was absent the next day when they progressed to three balls. So I can juggle two, but I've been told that doesn't count. It amuses the kids when I do it in the grocery story with fresh fruit or cans of vegetables or boxes of cereal though. Rubi - not so much with the amused.

14. THE PERSON/PEOPLE FROM YOUR PAST YOU WISH YOU COULD GO BACK AND TALK TO?
... I don't know. The past is the past. Let's leave it there.

15. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DAY?

Seriously? Anything that's not growing in my yard so I don't have to mow around it.

22. FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
French Vanilla.

23. BUTTER, PLAIN, OR SALTED POPCORN?
Movie Popcorn as it comes.

24. FAVORITE COLOR?
Blue.

25. WHAT KIND OF CAR DO YOU DRIVE?
Dodge Stratus 4-door and a Dodge Grand Caravan.

27. ON VACATION, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?
If money were no object. Everywhere.

33. WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
A Radio DJ.

34. SHOE SIZE?
9-ish.

35. WILL YOU EVER FILL OUT ONE OF THESE AGAIN?
I usually do.

36. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW?
Check over this to make sure it's spaced the way I want, then click the "Post" button.

THINKS for April 25 2006

Been awhile since... well since I posted anything!

As of today, I do not have to be back to work until next Wednesday. A week from tomorrow.  Rubi is going to Nashville this weekend with some friends, so I took some vacation time so I can run the kids to and fro school and not have to get a sitter.
Plus: no work=happy Kev!

As a result, maybe I can catch up on blogging here, reading other blogs, posting in the message forums I've been neglecting, add Rubi's sister to my friends list in MySpace (even though I never go to myspace), and maybe watch some Firefly.
And eat lots of takeout with the kids.

I've been saving a few items for a THINKS post.
Here they are.

Everytime I see a billboard with a version of this picture:

I think: "Pull my finger".

I used to game. That is, I used to play role playing games when I was in high school and some of college. One of the best I played was called Rifts, by a company called Palladium Books. Palladium Books also made the Robotech series of RPGs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, a SuperHero RPG, a military RPG, a fantasy D&D-type RPG, and several others - most of which all use the same rules system, and can be combined together in play, which is kind of the basis of the Rifts game ("let's take all of our games, and throw them together in a post-apocolyptic world with robots, mecha, ninjas, mutants, mecha, military, superheros, mecha, dragons, mages, and did we mention mecha?").
Well, Palladium is still around, still making Rifts stuff, but turns out the company had some internal problems recently, and
I'll be posting a different version of that link on my sidebar later.

And here's a small meme I got from my sister (her meme, my answers):
How well do you know me?? For instance, did you know...

Four jobs you have had in your life:
1. Radio DJ
2. Sno-cone trolley driver
3. telemarketer
4. 9-1-1 Dispatcher
among many others... I could go on. Really:
5. Jeans folder and pillow stocker at JC Penney.
6. Radio Station News Director.
7. TV master control operator.
8. Cable TV master control operator.
9. Program Director, Music Director, Chief Operator, and morning show co-host of a college radio station.
10. Public Safety Communications Supervisor.
11. Little Caeser's Pizza employee.

Four movies you would watch over and over:
1. Star Wars
2. Serenity
3. Highlander
4. Stargate

Four places you have lived
1. Evansville, IN - on the north side of town.
2. Evansville on the west side.
3. Evansville on the east side.
4. Evansville on the southeast side.

Four t.v shows you love to watch
1. Stargate SG-1
2. Stargate Atlantis
3. Battlestar Galactice
4. Firefly (does that count?)
5. And Rubi has introduced me to House.

For places you have been on vacation
1. Nashville, TN
2. Memphis, TN
3. Florida
4. Holiday World
Four of your favorite foods
1. Pizza
2. Cinammon Rolls
3. Bacon
4. Chicken strips

Four places you would rather be right now
1. ... quite happy right where I'm at. Home, on a mini-vacation from work, hangin' with the wife.
2.
3.
4.

Turns out I wasn't saving all that much to post about afterall...

Back From Indy

After spending all of last week in Indy, I got home Friday evening ready to never attend a 5-day conference ever again! Don't get me wrong - most of the material covered was great and very useful, but sheesh - five days!

Six if you count my travel day last Sunday.

Most of the speakers provided print-outs of their power point presentations - just the slides - however one guy actually provided a CD with all - ALL - of his material: several power point presentations, audio files, pictures, various other documents.  Wow!

Oh and did I mention I got sick while I was there. Nothing serious - it was either a cold or really bad sinusitis. I woke, I think it was Tuesday, feeling kinda cruddy. Same thing Wednesday and Thursday. Friday I felt a little worse, but I was getting to go home that evening, so: No big!  Saturday (you know, my first day Home!) I felt like death warmed over. Sunday (yesterday): all better!

Interestingly, Rubi had it too. She got over it a day before I did though.

And I'm still too busy to do any worthwhile blogging, let alone any fun internet browsing or worthwhile email reading or forum posting/browsing.  Good thing I don't have any books to review right now...

Okay... apparently the title of this post should have been "Here, let me whine for awhile".

Absence make the blog grow lacking

Does that title make any sense?

I have been crazybusy.
At work, I've spent the last 3 months trying to get prepared for National Public Safety Telecommunications Week (with a definite increase in activity the past month). I'm the "chair" of the committee for organizing recognition for our staff, so that week is my responsibility.
But I get to miss out on all the festivities, as I'll be leaving for Indianapolis Sunday afternoon for a weeklong conference. And I'm still not quite finished preparing for the above mentioned festivities.
The hotel (moderately upscale) I'm staying at in Indy charges an arm and a leg for wired internet access (at dial-up speeds no less) and does not provide wireless access - so I won't be blogging, or emailing Rubi, or anything else internet-related that week. I'm taking a laptop from work, but I don't think the thing even has a battery, so I can't even go to StellarGreenBacks or some other place with a hotspot.

I've barely had time to check my email and surf the blogs I read frequently.

Real life... sheesh. I want my money back!

M.C.F.A.T. Eleven

MCF hosts volume eleven of his astonishing tests!

1) A recent study shows that "prayer doesn't help patients recover from surgery." What are your thoughts on prayer and its effect on illness and suffering?

We spoke of this at our small group the other night. The consensus was "God doesn't participate in surveys".
The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing and to bring everything, through prayer and petition, to God through Jesus Christ - Prayer is important. But God has plans and can see the big picture, so we may not always pray for the correct things or results. It would be nice if we could pray like we knew what God knows (someone said this to Rubi recently).

2) If you were turned into a cartoon animal, what animal would you be, what wacky name would you have, and what would be your distinguishing characteristics?

Squirrel!! Can I be a squirrel? I wanna be a squirrel! Scampering around the yard all cute and fuzzy and scampery!
I probably wouldn't have a wacky name. Oooh! But I could be some kind of highly intelligent squirrel that lives in a library and is like a Watcher, but on his off hours gets to scamper about all squirrelly! That'd be me! I'd wear reading glasses that fall down on my nose when I'm reading - maybe I'd be a bit crazy. I'd have a nice comfy easy chair in my library. And I'd like to go scampering in my spare time! I could be like a cross between Fizban, Giles, and a squirrel!

3) What was your worst encounter with nature?

There was this squirrel....
Okay, not really.
I stepped on a bee once when I was young. I get sunburned easily.
Big snow storm of Christmas 2004 damaged our house nicely... That'd probably be the one.

4) What do you miss the most about the place you're originally from or, if you've never left, what things have kept you there?

I've always lived in this city. Most of my entire family is here, most of Rubi's entire family is here. It's got it's nice things that keep me here, and it's got the things that make me want to leave (power company has a monopoly, the state capitol doesn't remember that we're actually part of the state - hey! I think this could lead into another post!).

The Only Word In Office Is Office

A coworker forwarded this to me at work, and I had to blog it - it made me literally laugh out loud.
============
If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, "Who's on First?" might have turned out something like this:

" COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT"

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.
 ABBOTT: Mac?
 COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.
 ABBOTT: Your computer?
COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.
 ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.
 ABBOTT: What about Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?
ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?
COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?
 ABBOTT: Wallpaper.
COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.
 ABBOTT: Software for Windows?
COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

 ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?
 ABBOTT: I just did.
 COSTELLO: You just did what?
 ABBOTT: Recommend something.
 COSTELLO: You recommended something?
 ABBOTT: Yes.
 COSTELLO: For my office?
 ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?
 ABBOTT: Office.
 COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!
ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.
COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

 ABBOTT: Word.
 COSTELLO: What word?
 ABBOTT: Word in Office.
COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.
ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?
ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue "W".
COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue "w" if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial  bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?

 ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?
 ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?
ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.
COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?
 ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?
 ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.
COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?
 ABBOTT: One copy.
COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?
ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.
COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?
ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

 (A few days later)
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?
 ABBOTT: Click on "START".
