This morning was fun.

I spent the morning running all over town with Kev, hunting for this amazing chocolate thingy that we had last Christmas. It's a chocolate orange, you know the ones? And it was mint chocolate. YOM, to quote a friend. The hunt was unsuccessful, but we had fun. Particularly the time he waltzed me out the door to Walgreen's as we were leaving. The automatic door didn't open quite as fast as he'd planned, so he sort of...spun me into it.
Our bookcase shelf was missing a support piece, so was sitting crooked. We looked for the support piece, couldn't find it, so went to Home Depot to buy a package of new support pieces. (Um, do those things have a name?) We got home, he put the piece in, sat back, moved a book. I heard a small clatter, and he announced "There it is!" and held up the missing support piece. Of course.
You know how at Moe's they yell "Welcome to Moe's!" when you come in? Yeah. We were having lunch at Moe's, standing there placing our orders (Alfredo Garcia FTW!), when an employee walked in the door. The guy taking our order broke off midsentence to bellow "Welcome to work!" Hee hee...
This morning was fun.

DragonLance Movie!
Posted By kevbayer at 11/24/2007 11:45:00 AM
I read the original Dragonlance trilogy years ago (the series is 20 years old!) - and I've been hearing about a possible movie adaptation since then. Now it's happening. In fact, the DVD is supposed to be out this month (so... next Tuesday).
The original authors of the trilogy, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, were deeply involved in the production of this movie (an adaptation of the first book in the trilogy). There are some great actors doing the voices (Keifer Sutherland, Lucy Lawless, Jason Marsden).
The animation style (a mix of 2D traditional cel animation and 3D CG) looks a little dated to me - in fact, it looks like the old Dungeons & Dragon cartoon! The authors said they chose this style because in the tests a straight 3D film just didn't look right, and they wanted the battles and dragons to stand out so they used 3D for those. The authors also said they wanted the animation to feel like a fantasy movie and reflect the period when the books came out. In my opinion, based on the trailer, they've accomplished that. The animation looks like it came from the 80's and resembles other animated fantasy movies.
If you're a fan of Dragonlance, be sure to buy this movie on DVD. If you've wondered what Dragonlance is about, this will be a good introduction for you!

Happy Turkey Day
Friday, November 16, 2007
Hi

We're still alive. Just been busy with life and all. (I'm at work on a 12-hour overnight shift, hence the blogging to stay awake.)
Rubi started a new job a few weeks ago. She likes the job, says it's like getting to play dress up with dolls - only using real people wanting to buy wedding and prom gowns.
Most of us here at TheBayerFamily caught colds recently and are either recovering from or still suffering it. Alexander lucked out and hasn't really caught anything more than the sniffles.
This weekend we're celebrating Catherine's birthday.
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!! I can't believe Turkey Day is next week. And I actually have that day off! Hopefully I'll be having some turkey salad sandwiches for lunch for a few days after Thanksgiving.
A little over a week after that, we're taking a family vacation! I'm trying to decide if it's possible to have the kids do school work in the van during the drive to Florida and back - or rather, if it's conceivable they will actually be able to do the work while traveling.
Next blogging goal: make a post before Christmas!!
Happy New Year!

Way to go, kiddos
Posted By kevbayer at 10/28/2007 03:59:00 PM
This is the end of the first grading period for the kids and report cards came home Friday.
At the mid-point of the grading period, when "smoke-ups" came home, Elizabeth had a couple of classes in which her grades were much lower than expected.
However, on the report card Friday, she had brought those grades back up to a much better level - even making the honor roll. Way to kiddo!
Alexander also brought home excellent grades, making the highest honor roll possible! Way to go kiddo!
And Catherine, while as a kindergartner, doesn't actually get letter grades; her report card showed that she is excelling at her work. Way to go kiddo!
Way to go, kiddos
Thanks!
