Which Heroes Character?

Your Score: D.L. Hawkins
You scored 37 Idealism, 45 Nonconformity, 33 Nerdiness

I ain't wearing no tights.
Congratulations, you're D.L. Hawkins! You've got a bit of a past to overcome, but you are a strong person and you care very deeply about the people you love. You are good at getting out of tight situations, however, you're not quite as good at simple, practical things like making lunches. Your best quality: Getting yourself out of difficult situations Your worst quality: No culinary skills whatsoever, refusal to don tights

The Heroes Personality Test written by freedomdegrees on OkCupid Free Online Dating.

I enjoyed the Heroes finale that aired Monday evening. Lots of questions flying around the internet about it, "Why didn't Peter just fly? What about the radioactive fallout? Will Matt survive? Is Hiro his own great-great.... grandfather? Did Sylar turn into a roach?"

Really. I saw someone on a forum say they thought Sylar turned into the roach.

Now I have to wait several months for the 2nd season and the new series to start. I'll just have to be content with the online comic books until then.

Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

I'm not, but there was a casting call for next season in our city today.

After Elizabeth's birthday party (which will be a different post), I took her and three of her friends to the casting call. I really, really doubt they'll get callbacks, but we just did it for fun. Since I figured the girls would be in line for ages, I planned ahead. Packed a lunch for them, printed out trivia questions with a bag of candy for correct answers, and made them matching tshirts, with Sharpies to sign one another's shirts.

The TShirts were fun - the front said "You're not smarter than THIS fifth grader", and the back had the lyrics to the theme song. The girls loved them. (I had an ulterior motive too. The first 500 kids in line got free tshirts, and I had no intention of being there early enough to get that. We actually arrived a half hour AFTER auditions began. I made the tshirts so the girls wouldn't be bummed.)

We were in line for three hours, and had a ball. Ran into lots of people we knew - several kids from their school. One of their classmates won a radio contest and got to be first in line, so that was cool. But the girls in Elizabeth's group got a lot of attention! When we arrived, we got settled in line and I passed out sandwiches, Doritos, and Capri Sun. (They hadn't had lunch yet) Some one from the sponsoring radio station came over and asked if she could take a pic of them camped out in line, for their website. Then later, someone from the tv station had them answer some trivia questions, and sing the theme song.

But the really exciting thing happened at the end. We were near the end of the line - they were taking the kids up 20 at a time, and we were the second-to-last group. The girls came running out all excited afterwards, saying "They want to talk to you about the tshirts!" Which wasn't as exciting as it sounded. The guy just wanted to let me know that they loved the shirts. And because of them, they brought all four girls before the judges together. The 20 kids went into a large "waiting room" and were brought in one at a time to do the interview. But our group got inside, and the guy came out right away and said "We want the girls in the matching tshirts first"!! So they all four went in together, sang the theme song (both verses, plus one they'd made up in line - LOL), and chatted with the judges for a few minutes. Then they went back out, and did their individual interviews.

Pictures now:

Elizabeth and her friend talking to the radio station lady.

Showing off the backs of their shirts. Each one had one line of the theme song.

Fronts of their shirts. See the dot on Elizabeth's neck? Her friend was putting polka dots on the shirt, and Elizabeth moved.

Answering trivia questions for the TV reporter

We're next!!!

End of the line for me. Mommies and their cameras weren't allowed any farther, so I got this shot of them walking into the interview waiting room.

Ow.

I was tucking in my six year-old son Alexander the other night, on the top bunk of his bunk bed and he said to me, "The bottom bunk is really called the Bonk Bed. You know why?"
"Why?" I asked.
"Because when you wake up in the morning you bonk your head!"

Been Awhile

I have rarely updated as of late. Real Life has overtaken what few moments I could spare to write here aside from the occasional meme - well, Real Life and that time hog that is Guild Wars.

Happy Mother's Day to those that qualify.
Happy Weekend to those that don't.
Happy Anniversary to my darling wife, Rubi!  We've been married 13 years (as of this coming Monday).

Elizabeth had her final soccer game of the spring league today and totally rocked!  Her team won 3-0. Elizabeth played goalie one quarter and totally owned the other team!!  They came at her probably 6-8 times that quarter and each time she tackled the soccer ball and made sure it didn't get anywhere near the goal.  Her team came in 4th this season overall.  She's definitely playing better, which was the point of putting her in this spring league so she'll be a better player once try-outs roll around for her regular school team.

This school has flown by - I can't believe there's only a couple of weeks of school left... but I'm glad.  I, hopefully, won't be driving as much (now that gas is stupid-expensive) and I may get to sleep-in more often during the week.  Rubi's taking the summer off from volunteering at school and church events.  She's overtired from overcommitting herself - which she thrives on.  But she needs a break and she recognized that and told everyone asking for her that this summer she's unavailable.

I recently posted about Free Comic Book Day at a local comic book store. I'll leave you with some great pics featuring all the costumes characters that showed up from the Evansville Jedi Fanforce Club.

Free Comic Book Day 2007

Yesterday, I took my 6 year old son Alexander to a local comic book store for Free Comic Book Day. I knew in advance that my local Star Wars Fan Force club would have a table set up, and one of the members was dressed up in his replica Darth Vader costume. I thought Alexander would get a big kick out of meeting the Dark Lord of the Sith in person.
The comic store also had a Spiderman out front handing out copies of the free Spidey comic book and Alexander thought that was really neat too. After meeting Spidey and Vader, I let him explore the store for awhile. He wandered up and down the aisles checking out all the cool comi book-related toys the store had displayed, picked up a few freebies from FCBD and the store, and then we were on our way back home.
