I just don't know

Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heroes) has been cast as a young Spock in the next Star Trek movie, which will feature younger versions of the familiar original series characters.

I think he'll make a good "young Spock". But I think the entire idea of movies featuring the original characters when they were younger is a bad idea. The ST movies (and the entire franchise) have been suffering for awhile. Voyager wasn't that great. Enterprise was just plain awful. Even when Enterprise was good, it still didn't compare to mediocre episodes of some of the other series. Even with the cheese factor all the series have.

Let the movies/tv side of the franchise rest for awhile - just continue to explore the universe in the novels.

Now Star Wars.... I am looking forward to the new SW cartoon and the eventual live-action series they have planned.

Belated Happy Anniversary

To Star Wars. I forgot to post something about it a week ago during the "official" 30th anniversary of the original release of Star Wars.

I first saw Star Wars, the original, in the theater with my older brother and my youngest older sister one Sunday afternoon after church. I remember being five years old, which would make it the late summer of 1978, was Star Wars still in theaters at that point? If not, then I must have been four years old when I first saw it.

That's really all I remember about it. I remember a little more about the trip itself, but not seeing the movie for the first time. I remember my sister and her friends didn't want to sit with my brother and his friends, and I had to choose which group to sit with. I chose both, and ran back and forth between the groups at least once during the movie. I think my sister got mad at me for that.

I've been a Star Wars geek ever since.

Free Comic Book Day 2007

Yesterday, I took my 6 year old son Alexander to a local comic book store for Free Comic Book Day. I knew in advance that my local Star Wars Fan Force club would have a table set up, and one of the members was dressed up in his replica Darth Vader costume. I thought Alexander would get a big kick out of meeting the Dark Lord of the Sith in person.
The comic store also had a Spiderman out front handing out copies of the free Spidey comic book and Alexander thought that was really neat too. After meeting Spidey and Vader, I let him explore the store for awhile. He wandered up and down the aisles checking out all the cool comi book-related toys the store had displayed, picked up a few freebies from FCBD and the store, and then we were on our way back home.

Others that I'm proud of seeing, The Philadelphia Story (love it!), Double Indemnity.

I fell asleep during Citizen Kane and didn't finish American Beauty because it was such an awful movie - do those two count?

Vote for the name of the next SITH LORD

The current Star Wars Expanded Universe series of novels, called Legacy of the Force, features Han and Leia's son Jacen Solo turning to the dark side in what he sees as the only way of bringing to peace to the galaxy.
Much like his grandfather Anakin Skywalker thought years earlier during the Clone Wars.

Only this series of novels does a much better job of showing his reasons for falling to the dark side and makes the readers wonder if that really is the only way. But really we just know he's being deluded and we scream at him as we read the pages that he's making a big mistake.

As Jacen fully gives in to the dark side, he will take a Sith name, much like Palpatine gave Anakin Skywalker the name Vader.

Del Rey and Lucasfilm took suggestions from fans for Jacen's Sith name, and they have narrowed it down to five and are now taking votes for what will become Jacen's official Sith name in the EU.

Vote for the name of the next SITH LORD!

Who will be the next SITH LORD?

We asked you for your input in naming the next Sith Lord. We received more
than 8,500 entries. From them, the Lucasfilm, Del Rey editors and Legacy of the
Force authors Karen Traviss, Troy Denning and Aaron Allston narrowed it down to
five finalist.
Choose from the five names below, and help name the next Sith
Lord!
Darth Acheron
Darth Caedus
Darth Judicar
Darth Paxis
Darth Taral

Vote at www.darthwho.com

The winning Sith Lord will be name will be revealed in Star Wars®: Legacy
of the Force: Sacrifice, the fifth book in the new Legacy of the Force series.
On sale in Del Rey/Lucasbooks hardcover May 29, 2007.

Wow, those names are quite lame. There's discussion of them on the boards at theforce.net - with Darth Judicar and Darth Paxis being the seeming best suited names for Jacen as he sees himself as judge of the galaxy (Judicar) and the bringer of peace (Paxis). Caedus, depending on how you pronounce it, seems to be too close for comfort to the name of the Skywalker character in the Legacy comic book series set some time in the future after this series. Taral is just dumb. And Acheron is a river or something from mythology, and from what I've read, the fans aren't sure how that relates to Jacen.

Go vote. Or don't. Maybe if no one votes for any of these names, They'll go back and pick different names. But I doubt it.

My Ears Are Bleeding!!!

That is just... too funny.
Force this upon - I mean share this with everyone you know. You can't be the only one to enjoy this - you have to let others in on this.

Actually, I still like Meko's disco version better where he breaks it down in the middle and raps C3POs story of his adventures with the rebellion to the Ewoks.
