1. Memes created personly by me.

2. Youtube videos ( nothing inapropriate, of course! )

3. Things like stories to finish, movie reviews, book reviews Etc.

If you want any of these, just post a comment saying what you want. Thanks!

A Book Meme

Taken from Carrie at Mommie Brain.

Which book do you irrationally cringe away from reading, despite seeing only positive reviews?

Anything non-fiction.

If you could bring three characters to life for a social event (afternoon tea, a night of clubbing, perhaps a world cruise), who would they be and what would the event be?

Hmmmm... Since this is supposed to for some kind of Social Event, how about: Lije Bailey, Priscilla "Hutch" Hutchins, and Alex Benedict. Lije Bailey (from Asimov's Robot novels), because he's a parent and a cop - and kind of set in his ways. Hutch (from Jack McDevitt's Priscilla Hutchins novels), because she always knows what to say no matter the situation, and Alex (from McDevitt's Alex Benedict novels) because he's a relic collector and has lots of money. As a bonus, all of them would have probably limitless stories to tell.

You are told you can’t die until you read the most boring novel on the planet. While this immortality is great for awhile, eventually you realize it’s past time to die. Which book would you expect to get you a nice grave?

I don't know. Probably something I'd not be interested in at all, like a Jane Austin novel or something like that.

Come on, we’ve all been there. Which book have you pretended, or at least hinted, that you’ve read, when in fact you’ve been nowhere near it?

The original Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov. A classic in SF. I have the original trilogy on my shelf. I think I've reads part of each book, but never the entire thing. There's hardly any dialogue in them, it's mostly long paragraphs describing what's going on and why. Like a Clancy novel, but without the action, dialogue, and extraneous plot threads. I really should read those. I've read the books in the series that follow the original three (and that come before chronologically), sometimes more than once. Those were written more recently and reflect a writing style geared more towards my generation.

As an addition to the last question, has there been a book that you really thought you had read, only to realize when you read a review about it/go to ‘reread’ it that you haven’t? Which book?

I'm pretty sure I remember that happening, just don't remember which book.

You’re interviewing for the post of Official Book Advisor to some VIP (who’s not a big reader). What’s the first book you’d recommend and why? (if you feel like you’d have to know the person, go ahead of personalize the VIP).

The Bible.

A good fairy comes and grants you one wish: you will have perfect reading comprehension in the foreign language of your choice. Which language do you go with?

Oooh, interesting question. Ancient Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic. I'd love to be able to comprehend the Bible in the language parts of it were originally written in.

A mischievous fairy comes and says that you must choose one book that you will reread once a year for the rest of your life (you can read other books as well). Which book would you pick?

The Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy.

I know that the book blogging community, and its various challenges, have pushed my reading borders. What’s one bookish thing you ‘discovered’ from book blogging (maybe a new genre, or author, or new appreciation for cover art-anything)?

That I should probably pay a bit more attention to what I read. Especially if I want to write a review of the book or discuss it at a book club or online. I tend to zip through books, and once I'm finished I barely remember what I read - even if I really enjoyed it.

That good fairy is back for one final visit. Now, she’s granting you your dream library! Describe it. Is everything leather-bound? Is it full of first edition hardcovers? Pristine trade paperbacks? Perhaps a few favorite authors have inscribed their works? Go ahead-let your imagination run free.

A big room, plushly carpeted full of floor-to-ceiling book cases. Those are full of books of all kinds: nice leather-bound collector sets, paperbacks, TPBs, comics, oversized, those tiny little "gift" books, old books, new books, fiction, non-fiction, and a few collectible non-book items as well, etc. There'd be several too-comfortable chairs that recline and a sofa. There'd be a fancy desk with a window/glass door behind it overlooking a deck and a lake surrounded by a sparse forest and mountains all around. There'd be a computer on the desk, with a comfy chair behind the desk. There would be several eBook readers in the library as well. On the wall opposite the desk, the wall is covered with bookcases. One of those bookcases conceals the door. To the left of the desk, if you're sitting behind it, that wall has a fireplace and plenty of spacing between it and the bookcases on that wall. In those spaces, several pieces of art hang on the wall. The wall to the right of the desk is covered with bookcases. The wall behind the desk, with the window centered in it, has bookcases to either side of the window. The window itself, apart from being part of a door, is floor-to-ceiling with room darkening blinds and curtains. The comfy chairs are in the center of the room on a large rug and surround a small table. The sofa sits between the circle of chairs and the wall to the right of the desk, facing the fireplace, with plenty of room to walk behind or in front of the sofa. Lighting in the room is subdued, a small lamp with shade on the desk and a matching one on the table in the middle of the room. Recessed lighting in the ceiling and track lighting on the ceiling to spot-light collectibles placed on certain shelves and on the mantle of the fireplace. The chairs, table and rug in the center of the room conceal a trap-door in the floor that leads to a storage room under the library, separate from the rest of the house, that includes emergency exit tunnels that lead to the garage, out to a cabin in the woods, and to the boathouse on the docks.

I really like my library.

Love/Hate

I love to eat: Pizza. And steak.  And cake.
I hate to eat: Most vegetables. Okay, I don't really hate them, but I really really dislike them.
I love to go: anywhere with Rubi.
I hate to go: away when Rubi is at home.
I love it when: a plan comes together! Oh wait, that one's been taken. I love when Rubi meets me at the door when I come home from work.
I hate it when: I eat the last piece of pizza, and a few minutes later one of my kids asks if there's any left.
I love to see: my kids succeed.
I hate to see: the mess that is my dresser, knowing full well I'm capable of cleaning it up.
I love to hear: Rubi's voice over the phone when I'm at work.
I hate to hear: my kids say "I don't know".

Wonderful day yesterday. Kev and I both had the day off work, and no giant rush to get out the door, thanks to a two-hour school delay. Once we packed the kids off to school, it was just us. We headed off to Logan's Roadhouse for lunch, where the steaks were...just...[drool]. Then to a nearby theater to see 27 Dresses. It was great. Tuesday matinees are the best - we arrived early and settled in with our snacks, and were the only people in the theater. So we amused ourselves by shouting out the answers to the movie trivia questions on the screen. We knew them all because they were on an endless loop that we saw 847 times. The previews were wonderful; several of them led us to look at each other and say "NEED to see that." Was fun. The movie was great too. Not the profanity-fest that so many are any more. (Holy cow, I'm getting old and stuffy.) Very funny ($140. You know what you did.), happy ending, all the good stuff. And James Marsden...I swear he gets yummier every time I see him. So. Cute. Hmmmm....Ahem, sorry, what? Right! Movie! Very good.

Kev poured cherry slushy on me twice - that was less fun. That also reminds me,I need to work on getting that bright red slushy stain out of my favorite jeans. /sigh... On the way out, the screen across the hall was playing Cloverfield, and they'd left the doors open. I leaned down and peeked in, until Kev grabbed me and hauled me away. He doesn't want to have to deal with my nightmares when I insist on watching something that I KNOW will scare me to death.

A good time was had by both.

Stole a Meme

I stole the following from Carrie.

What kind of soap is in your shower right now?
Several: Wal-Mart-brand liquid soap, a bar of caffeine soap, Rubi's shower gel.

Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
No.

What would you change about your living room?
The house it's in :-)  Realistically?  The furniture.

Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?
Clean.

What is in your fridge?
Lots of post-grocery shopping food.

White or wheat bread?
Sure, but usually wheat.

What is on top of your refrigerator?
Freeze-packs (that go in a cooler to keep things cold) because there's no room in the freezer for them.

What color or design is on your shower curtain?
A clear one inside, and a plain white one on the outside of the tub.

How many plants are in your home?
A single rose I bought Rubi the other day.

Is your bed made right now?
Yeah right.

Comet or Soft Scrub?
Neither, but we have several other products.

Is your closet organized?
No. But I know where everything is.

Can you describe your flashlight?
Which one?  There's a yellow one on my nightstand. A very small maglight-type flashlight on my dresser (that's supposed to be in my work bag), there's a slightly larger maglight-type flashlight in my work bag, there's a large hand-held flashlight in it's case under my bed and there's a red and black flashlight on top of the cabinets in our laundry ...alcove that needs batteries.

Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home?
Yes. The kids have many plastic cups from restaurants, Rubi and I have glass drinking glasses, and a few plastic drinking cups too.

Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
No. Rubi's the tea drinker, and usually drinks it warm.

If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
A world of yes.

Curtains or blinds?
Curtains on the front window.  Blinds everywhere else.  But I want to put blinds on the front window soon too.

How many pillows do you sleep with?
Two for me. Two for Rubi.

Do you sleep with any lights on at night?
No.

How often do you vacuum?
Me? Rarely.  Rubi usually does it and sometimes Elizabeth will do it.  Although I actually enjoy vacuuming - I should do it more.

Standard toothbrush or electric?
Standard.

What color is your toothbrush?
White with blue highlights.

Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch?
No.  No one is welcome here :-)

What is in your oven right now?
The racks and drippings.

Is there anything under your bed?
Oh yes.  We can't fit anything else under there!

Chore you hate doing the most?
Folding laundry.  Doing the laundry I'm okay with - it's folding it and putting it away that I don't enjoy, unless Rubi is there to help me and keep me company.

What retro items are in your home?
Retro?  I've got some cassette tapes. I've still got the denim jacket I wore in college.  (And keep meaning to throw it out...)

Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
Of course not - I have three kids.

How many mirrors are in your home?
Hmmmmm: bathroom 2, bedroom 2, 1 Tinkerbell mirror.  Total: 5

What color are your walls?
Which ones?  Most are white-ish.  Our bedroom is a very light green and Alexander's room is yellow with blue around the top.

What does your home smell like right now?
Whatever Rubi happens to be cooking for dinner?  Don't know, I'm not there - I'm at work.

Favorite candle scent?
I like the sugar cookie candles, the cinnamon candles, or the cupcake.

What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now?
None.

What color is your favorite Bible?
I like my little black soft-cover NIV Bible.

Ever been on your roof?
Of course.  Every man has to get on his own roof every now and then.  Even if he doesn't really have a reason to do so.

Do you own a stereo?
No.

How many TVs do you have?
One.

How many house phones?
Two, a cordless and a corded. The corded is in-case the power goes out.

Do you have a housekeeper?
Shyeah right!

What style do you decorate in?
Three Children with Two Working Parents.

Do you like solid colors or prints in furniture?
Solids.

In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you’d grab if you only could make one quick trip?
After making sure the rest of the family is safely out of harms way - I'd probably try to grab some extra clothes for everyone, and our wedding book.  However, doing so is a bad idea and potentially puts yourself in danger and I can not advocate anyone trying to rescue belongings from a home that is on fire.  Make sure everyone is out and safe and call 9-1-1.  Have a safety plan for everyone in your household. Rather than try to rescue belongings, you could also have everyone keep an emergency bag packed in a convenient location that you grab as you climb out of a window or whatever.  Keep precious belongings, copies of important documents, and backups of computer files in a fire-proof safe and in a secondary location like a safe-deposit box.

Another Stuff Post

Been awhile since I updated... I've been encouraging Elizabeth and Rubi (fail!) to post more often.  My sister, Val, recently updated her blog too!

I've recently been elected as the new Webmaster for my local Star Wars Fan Club, the E'ville Jedi. Before, the club just had a myspace and their official forums at theforce.net.  I plan on expanding their webpresence in an effort to bring more people to the club.  I've got so many different accounts and webspaces now because of this that I had to create a separate user on my PC just for this hobby.

I've also recently been accepted as an audio editor on one of my favorite podcasts, The Signal! I'm really excited and nervous about that.  I'm excited because I love audio editing, and I'm nervous for a couple of reasons: it's time consuming and I don't have much spare time, and The Signal has a really tight professional sound and I hope I can keep that sound on the segments I edit.  I've already edited three segments for the upcoming episode.

And I don't think I ever mentioned it before, but I'm also a forum admin at 911Lifeline.org.

Carrie at MommyBrain mentioned that another blog, 5 Minutes for Momis giving away an MP3 player from Best Buy!  Gotta love blogs that give stuff away (like Carrie does sometimes).

And in closing, MCF gives us a great review of Cloverfield.  I think I'll wait for the DVD.

Ooh, I think I messed it up.

For our carpool kid. Our carpool kid is a sweet but taciturn 8th grade boy who just sort of tolerates arriving at school every day in a minivan full of small children. He gets in the van, says hello, then is silent until we arrive at school, at which point he thanks us politely and makes his escape.

Yesterday, I was driving him home from school, enjoying my Daft Punk CD. (Yes, I like things mommies aren't supposed to like. Daft Punk, Nickelback, MMO's, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, among others. Shhh, don't tell the other upstanding private school mommies.)

Carpool boy spoke up after a few minutes of "One More Time", asking "What CD is this, because they play this at Abercrombie." I told him, and he was silent the rest of the ride.

I'm fairly sure I rendered the song, the CD, and possibly the band itself no longer acceptable for him, because it's now a minivan mom thing.

Sorry, kiddo.

This weekend..

I am trying to keep my new years resolution so here we go:
Friday: went to a sleepover/dance practice and hung out with CGKsuperstar, who comments here frequently.
Saturday: Went home, went to my grandparents house and relaxed a little.

Sunday/today: Celebrated a Birthday with my Grandmother and stayed there while my parents worked and am currently blogging.
As of today, I will say I'm a relaxer/soccerplayer/interetaddict.
Bye!

Who?

76% Tom Tancredo
65% Fred Thompson
64% Mike Huckabee
60% Mitt Romney
57% John McCain
50% John Edwards
49% Ron Paul
43% Bill Richardson
42% Barack Obama
41% Hillary Clinton
40% Rudy Giuliani
39% Joe Biden
35% Mike Gravel
34% Chris Dodd
30% Dennis Kucinich

2008 Presidential Candidate Matching Quiz

Interesting. I haven't heard of half these people (or more). I've never heard of Tancredo but apparently my "interests" match up with his platform. I took one of these awhile back (different website, don't remember where it was - I'll have to look it up). That one said Ron Paul matched up best with my interests.

I abhor politics. Kick all the politicians out of Washington and start fresh with a government that rotates frequently with short term limits for all offices and a mandatory retirement age of 65.

Happy New Year!

Rang it in quietly, piled on the loveseat with Kev and the kids. New Year's celebratory hugs and kisses all around, put the kids back to bed, and then us old fogies went to bed ourselves. [yawn]

I celebrated today by not going to work. Okay, the store is closed so it doesn't really count, but I'm getting paid right. now., so...yay!

Went shopping for new work clothes since I have exactly ONE pair of work pants that I wash every night. /sigh. Found some good sales and cute stuff. ($100 Tommy Hilfiger boots for $24.95!! Whee!) Pants, sweater, earrings, boots, new purse. I'm gonna be so cute at work tomorrow.

Wound up with lunch at Cici's, came home, hung out, and saw Kev off to work. Now I'm blasting Nickelback in my headset while the kids clean their rooms.

I should probably check on that - the noises that are filtering through Rockstar don't sound room-cleaning-ish.

Happy new year, all.
